Specialty Drapery is a window-treatment workroom in Akron, Ohio. We buy fabric on the roll, cut and sew it on our own tables, build our own wood cornices, and our own crew installs the finished work in homes and buildings across Northeast Ohio.
We make what we install
Most of the companies that will quote your windows are ordering from a catalogue and sending a subcontractor to hang it. We are not. The fabric comes in on rolls and is cut here. The drapery is sewn here. The cornices are built here.
The people on the ladder are on our payroll — which means when something needs to be right, there is one company to make it right. We have been doing it over 40 years, residential and commercial both: a single bedroom window, or every opening in a building.

One bracket. Two rolls.
A dual day-night shade puts two independent rollers in a single bracket at the head of one window. The front roll carries the fabric you chose. The rear roll is blackout. Each one drops on its own — so the same window filters the afternoon sun and then goes properly dark at night, with nothing else added to the wall.
It is not a banded or “zebra” shade. That is one roller carrying one striped fabric, and it gives you no blackout layer. Two rolls do. See how it works, with the diagram.

What actually makes a window treatment good
Four things, and only one of them is the fabric you pick.
It fits the hole it is in
An opening measured in one place and ordered from a size chart gets rounded to the nearest stocked width, and the difference is taken up as a gap at the edges. We measure each one top, middle and bottom — which on a Northeast Ohio house that has settled for a century is three different numbers — and cut to what is actually there.
The opacity matches the job
Room-darkening and blackout are not two words for the same thing, and a solar screen that is perfect at four o'clock is the wrong answer at ten at night. The five rungs, and what you notice at each.
The header closes the light gap
The thing that decides whether a bedroom goes dark is not the cloth — it is the mount and what sits over the roll. Nobody mentions that before the sale. Why the edges matter.

Do you charge for the in-home consultation?
No. A designer comes to your home with fabric, measures every opening, designs the treatment with you and gives you a written quote before leaving. There is no charge and no obligation.
Do you make the shades and drapery yourselves?
Yes. We buy fabric on the roll and cut it in our own Akron workroom, sew the drapery here, and build the wood cornices here. Our own crew installs it.
